Two NCAA Events Win 2010 "Sports Travel" Awards

Two NCAA championship events captured Sports Travel Awards at the TEAMS 2010 Conference and Expo, held in Charlotte, N.C.
The 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship won the award for Best Single-Sport Event, while the 2010 NCAA Men’s College World Series won the

award for Best Sports Event or Circuit.
“The 2010 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and Men’s College World Series being honored with Sports Travel Awards is a testament to the remarkable

storylines written through the performance of our student-athletes on and off the playing fields. All credit goes to the hard working committees, volunteers

and hosts that create the championship atmosphere,” said Greg Shaheen, NCAA interim executive vice president of championships and alliances. “The student-

athlete and fan experience is of the utmost importance to us, and it is rewarding to see the work of so many being recognized for these endeavors.”
Nine NCAA championships in all were nominated for awards in the collegiate categories that included Best Single-Sport Event, Best Multi-Sport or Multi-

Discipline Event and Best Sports Event Series or Circuit. These championships included:
* 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships
* 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship
* 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships
* 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s Gymnastics Championships
* 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships
* 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship
* 2010 NCAA Men’s College World Series
* 2010 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships
* 2010 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four
Hosted by Sports Travel magazine, the TEAMS (Travel, Events and Management in Sports) Conference and Expo is the world’s largest gathering of event

organizers and travel planners from the sports industry. Criteria for nomination and voting included:
* Superior organization of and attendance at the event
* A superior experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event
*How the site or venue served to enhance the event.
The 2010 Sports Travel Award collegiate category winners are:
Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event

Best Collegiate Multi-Sport or Multi-Discipline Event
2010 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Johnson City, TN
Best Collegiate Sports Event Series or Circuit
2010 NCAA Men’s College World Series, Omaha, NE
